I was collaborateur artistique for Katie Mitchell on the staging of this world premier of Written On Skin by George Benjamin, libretto by Martin Crimp, for the Aix-en-Provence Festival in 2012. I also restaged the production for a touring version which premiered in Toulouse in November 2012 and travelled to Vienna and Munich in the summer of 2013 after the production opened at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, in March. I then revived the production again in Paris at the Opera Comique. Written On Skin was awarded the International Opera Award in the category of World Premier in 2013.

In 2016 George Benjamin asked me to semi-stage Written On Skin for a European tour with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra with performances at concert houses in Dortmund and Cologne, Barcelona’s Liceu, Madrid’s Teatro Real and London’s Barbican Centre, where it received 5 star reviews.
